Gluten Free Meal Replacement and Snack Bars

ThinkThin makes a good GF soft and chewy bar that is good for breakfast or pre-workout. The Chunky Peanut Butter bar has 20g protein and 240 calories. You can buy these at Trader Joes, Whole Foods, Raleys, Ralphs, and a number of other grocery stores. Make sure to read the wrapper as not all bars are GF.

Nugo has “Go Free” snack bars in Dark Chocolate Crunch that contain 9g protein and only 150 calories. They also have a carrot cake flavor, but it has a stale taste. The dark chocolate bar is really good, with a crispy rice texture with a chocolate dipped bottom.  These are hard to find in stores, so I order them in bulk at www.nugonutrition.com.

Greens+ has energy and protein bars that are GF. These bars are organic and alkaline forming. The grams of protein varies depending on if you get an energy bar or protein bar, but both are around 250 calories. The chocolate bars taste better than the original flavor. Pick these up at grocery stores, Trader Joes or Whole Foods. Sometimes the protein bars are hard to find, so you can order them online at www.greensplus.com.

Zone Perfect Bars in Chocolate Peanut Butter do not have gluten listed ingredients, but the package notes it is manufactured in a facility that contains wheat. I’ve had no problems with these bars and, in my opinion, they are the best tasting.

EnviroKids has organic crispy rice bars in Peanut Choco Drizzle and various fruit flavors. The Drizzle flavor is like a delicious peanut buttery rice crispy bar and has a very light and airy density. Each time I go to Whole Foods, I buy all the boxes that are out (there are 6 bars in each box).

I’ve tried all of these but the Zone bar. All are great. I eat a Greens Plus protein bar every morning – the chocolate one. And, I eat a Think Thin Peanut Butter, White Chocolate or Chocolate bar during the day as a snack. (Think thin bas are great-tasting.)

      Hello,

I have a few more Bar options that my twins picked up at Sans in San Rafael. Sammy liked the Can Do Kid which is now GF. 170 calories. The cool cheetah on the front was a major draw for him so he can eat it and say, “watch how fast I can run!” Audrey found she likes Pure Organic chocolate brownie bar. It has omega 3′s and antioxidants 180 calories
Check it out at http://www.thepurebar.com. The most exciting news is from Pamela products and she is inventing the whenever bar. I sampled it with my twins and it is good! A nutritious good tasting treat. Anyway, we are moving in July and I thought it would be fun for my kids to meet you if your interested. Have you met Marissa and her brother, the owner of Sans, gluten free grocery in San Rafael?
